ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — One week ago, the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team celebrated a victory after a last-second field goal over Lebanon Valley. In Saturday afternoon's Commonwealth Conference contest with visiting Alvernia, the Crusaders put the Blue Jays on the opposite end, hitting a buzzer-beating layup to deny E-town's comeback bid, 58-56.

With eight seconds showing on the game clock, Rachel Forjan drilled a three-pointer from the left wing to knot the game at 56-56 after Alvernia's (7-14, 3-11 CC) Kaitlyn Yoh hit a pair of free throws to give the Crusaders a three-point edge.

After Forjan's make, Yoh took the inbounds pass and as she crossed over half court, found Tyra Roberts down in the low post. Roberts caught Yoh's pass and put the ball up and in before time expired.

Elizabethtown (15-4, 9-4 CC) had its chances, finishing the game with 22 more shot attempts than Alvernia (74 to 52), but only one more made field goal (22 to 21). The Jays' shooting percentage ended up at 29.7% from the floor.

Emily Young's jumper gave EC a 13-11 lead with 7:53 left in the first half, but the Crusaders grabbed the lead back with a 9-0 run, capped off by Yoh's two foul shots. She was 10-of-12 in the game. Alvernia led for the remainder of the half, though E-town had trimmed a seven-point lead down to three by the break (28-25).

Roberts scored ten of her 16 points in the second half to help stretch the Crusaders' advantage to as many as ten (47-37) with 11:45 to go.

Emily Martin battled down low and grabbed two offensive rebounds and finished them off with a layup on consecutive possessions to bring the Jays within five points at 52-47 with less than four minutes remaining.

Yoh made the margin seven once more with another pair of foul shots, but Taylor Kreider responded by scoring six straight points to cut the deficit to a single point with 46 seconds left.

Elizabethtown put Yoh back on the foul line with 11 ticks left, and after her ninth and tenth free throws of the contest, Forjan connected on her trey, before the Alvernia point guard found Roberts for the game-winner.

Kreider notched her tenth double-double of the season and inched closer to 1,000 points in an Elizabethtown uniform. Currently, the Solanco grad has 995 points and can become the 23rd member of the 1,000-point club on Monday. She also had 11 rebounds. Martin also hit the glass, tying Kreider for a team-best with 11 boards. Kendra Beittel added ten points.

The women's basketball team is back on the court Monday, February 10, in a make-up game from last week with Arcadia, which was postponed due to icy conditions. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
