NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team made its free throws down the stretch, and won at Baruch College, 73-67, on Thursday night. The game, billed as the Battle of Lexington, marked the first win for Lehman over Baruch since February of 2010.

Tonight, the Lightning (13-9, 7-6 CUNYAC) took the lead for good, with 6:25 to go, when sophomore Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) made a pair of free throws to set the score at 61-59. Minutes later, Navarro would hit a jumper with just 3:09 to go, pushing the lead to five points, 67-62. That was the last field goal Lehman would make in the game, as Baruch (15-7, 11-3 CUNYAC) tightened their defense.

However, free throws proved the savior for the Lightning, who scored their last six points from the stripe. Freshman Melanie Mena (Bronx, N.Y./Aquinas) ultimately secured the victory with her tenth rebound on the night and pair of successful free throws with just three seconds left in the game.

As a team, Lehman connected on 25 of 28 free throws during the game. Leading the way was sophomore Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton), who made 13 of 14 shots from the line. She finished the night with 22 points.

Navarro led all scorers in the game with 24 points. She made seven of 14 shots from the field, including five of six from three-point land. She also made all five free throws. Freshman Amely Del Rosario (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) added 15 points, four rebounds, and three blocks.

Lehman now advances into fifth place in the CUNYAC standings, handing second place Baruch only its third conference loss of the season.

The Lightning will play its final road game of the regular season on Tuesday, February 11, at York College.
