Benedictine (Ill.) University shot 60.7% in the second half, putting a ragged first half by both teams in the rearview mirror to defeat the Lakeland College women's basketball team 64-50 Saturday afternoon.

The Muskies shot just 32.1% for the game, including 19.2% in the first half. Lakeland dropped its second game in three days and fell to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, while Benedictine improved to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

The Eagles won in a game that was a dramatic contrast of two halves. The two teams combined for just 31 points in a sloppy first half that included nearly as many turnovers as points, but both suddenly found offensive rhythm in the second half.

Benedictine scored 48 points in the final 20 minutes, including 29 in a span of 9:05 to start the half. The Eagles shot 33.3% in the first half (7 of 21) and committed 16 turnovers, but suddenly couldn't miss, hitting 17 of 28 in the second half.

Lakeland trailed just 16-15 at halftime despite making just 5 of 26 from the field in the first half, but couldn't keep up in the second half even while picking up its own scoring pace considerably. The Muskies shot 12 of 27 in the second half and made seven three-pointers, but the visitors continued to pull away.

Benedictine started the second half on a 12-0 run, taking a 28-15 lead on Vincenza Ranallo's three-pointer with 16:02 left. The Eagles soon went on another 11-0 run, capped by a jumper by Michelle Batty to make it 45-26 with 10:55 to play in the game.

Leah Eisner (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis.) finished with 11 points and five rebounds to lead Lakeland and was the only player to score in double figures. Lexie Greenheck (So.-Oostburg, Wis.) added nine points, including three three-pointers.

Briana Hamilton scored 14 points off the bench and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field to lead Benedictine. The Eagles shot 24 of 49 (49.0%) for the game and also dominated the boards, outrebounding Lakeland 40-25.

The Muskies are in action again Monday night when they travel to Watertown to face Maranatha Baptist Bible College at 7 p.m.
