FARMINGDALE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team dropped a crucial Skyline Conference matchup with the rival Farmingdale State College Rams on Thursday night by the score of 87-73. Now falling to 5-13 on the season, the Panthers also drop under the .500 mark in conference play (3-4), while the Rams add wins to both their overall record (10-7) and conference record (7-1).
Farmingdale grabbed the game's initial three points, and although Old Westbury would knot the score up a minute and a half later, the Rams would regain the lead shortly thereafter and hold onto it for the remainder of the contest.
Following the tie, Farmingdale put together a 9-0 run to put them up 12-3 with 13:36 remaining in the first half. Old Westbury battled back and even drew the game back to one point (21-20 with 6:44 remaining), but the Rams outscored the Panthers 19-7 in the final minutes to end the half up 40-27.
Old Westbury came out strong in the second, cutting the lead down to four on several occasions between 3:38 and 7:58, but a 15-4 run allowed Farmingdale to compile a 67-54 lead. The 15-point edge tied a game-high but it was a 14-point advantage held by the Rams when the buzzer sounded.
Further analysis proved that the Panthers paid for their turnovers (30) in this matchup. The Rams were poised to capitalize on their opponents mistakes and outscored the Panthers 31-9 on points on turnovers. Farmingdale also held advantages in fast-break points (22-4) and bench points (25-4).
Despite the loss, DeAndra Scott had a career night, registering 34 points and 11 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season. The senior also contributed two blocks.
Camille Romero (26 points, two steals) and Nicky Young (11 points, 11 assists, seven steals) lead the charge for the Rams.
