TOWSON, Md. --- Senior forward Laura Jordan scored a career-high 24 points including 18 in the first half and sophomore forward Alesha Marcks tossed in a career-best 18 points with 12 in the second half to lead the Moravian College women's basketball team to a 74-65 Landmark Conference win at Goucher Saturday evening.
Jordan added eight rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots as the Greyhounds, who lead the NCAA Division III in blocked shots at 8.4 per game, blocked a total of eight shots in the game. Marcks, who hit a career high for the second time in four days, also contributed five rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Sophomore guard Emily MacDonnell added six points while senior guard Danielle Brogan had five points and three boards.
Sharnell Huff led the Gophers with 27 points in the game including a three-pointer in the first half to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Senior guard Katie O'Rourke tossed in 11 points to go with five rebounds and five assists as the Greyhounds starters all played 28 or fewer minutes in the victory.
O'Rourke opened the scoring with a pair of free throws, and she hit a lay-up four minutes into the first half to give the Greyhounds their first double-digit lead of the game, 15-5. Moravian's largest advantage of the first half, 18 points at 34-16, came after a jumper by Marcks with 6:32 before the intermission.
The Gophers went on a 12-1 run to close within seven points, 35-28, with just over two minutes until halftime. However, Moravian scored the final seven points of the first half including a three-point play by Jordan with two seconds on the clock to send the Greyhounds to the locker room with a 42-28 advantage.
Moravian needed nearly three minutes to score at the beginning of the second half but the Greyhounds' defense only allowed two points during the stretch. Marcks connected on a three-point play at 15:45 for a 50-32 lead, and the Hounds started going to the bench with over 12 minutes left in the game.
The Greyhounds eventually pushed the lead to 21 points, 67-56, on Marcks last basket of the contest.
Moravian will return to action on Wednesday, February 5 when the squad hosts Drew University in Johnston Hall for a Landmark Conference game tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
