Fredericksburg, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team fell 60-42 on the road at Capital Athletic Conference rival Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon. The Saints drop to 12-7 overall, 8-3 in CAC play, but remain in third place in the league standings.
Aliya Roseborough led the Saints with 13 points off the bench while Felicia Adomako added nine. Adomako and Kievanna Lacey both paced MU with seven rebounds each.
A slow start to the first half turned to the Eagles (13-6, 6-5 CAC) favor as the home team pushed to a 13-3 lead at the 11:18 mark. Marymount responded with a 6-0 run over the next three minutes to pull within four but UMW answered right back with nine unanswered points before eventually taking a 36-14 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Mary Washington hit the opening baskets to take its largest lead of the game up 26 points. The Saints would methodically chip away at the lead and pull within as few as 13 points, courtesy of an Adomako jumper with four minutes to play and a Daja Belt three-pointer a minute later, but the early deficit was too much too overcome.
Sam Partonen led Mary Washington with 14 points while Aby Diop added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Marymount returns to the hardwood as it hosts Capital Athletic Conference newcomer Southern Virginia to the Verizon Sports Arena on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.MarymountSaints.com.
