ASHLAND, Va. – Celebrating their 25th annual Back to the Hive reunion, the Yellow Jackets topped Lynchburg College 91-73 this afternoon in ODAC women's basketball.
The Yellow Jackets (14-5, 7-3 ODAC) took their first lead of the contest on two free-throws by Taylor Huber (Ashland, VA / Patrick Henry) in the fourth minute of the game to take the 11-10 edge. R-MC's second lead occurred after a Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker) three, advancing the Jackets to 25-23. Randolph-Macon would keep the lead for the remainder of the half, advancing by as much as seven points. While Lynchburg (11-8, 8-2 ODAC) would outshoot R-MC 45.5% to 36.4% from the field, the Jackets took the 40-37 edge at intermission.
Randolph-Macon would continue their momentum in the second stanza, topping the Hornets in all offensive categories to take the 91-73 victory. Sophomore Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, VA / Patrick Henry) led all scorers with 24 points as she picked up her ninth double-double of the season. She finished the day with 14 rebounds, one assist, and shot 8-12 from the field along with eight frees. Huber added 23 points of her own, recording two assist, a block and a steal. Parsons and Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, VA / Cape Henry Collegiate) both had 12 points, while Hester nabbed a game-high six assists.
The last time these two teams met the Hornets trumped R-MC 76-74 in Lynchburg.
The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team returns to Ashland Tuesday, February 4th as they host Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:00 pm ODAC matchup.
