UW-La Crosse Falls to UW-Eau Claire

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 57-47 to UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles drop 9-11 overall and 3-8 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blugolds improve to 5-15 overall and 3-8 in the conference. 

UW-Eau Claire led by as many as five in the first half, including 14-9 with 10:35 remaining. UW-L came back to take a 20-17 advantage with :53 left in the half after a Mallory Cramer layup and jumper.  The Blugolds scored the final five points of the half to lead 22-20.  Courtney Lewis hit a three-point field goal with :39 left to tie the game and Teenie Lichtfuss scored on a layup with :07 remaining. 

UW-L led 28-26 with 15:17 remaining on a Marina Kneeland layup, but Lichtfuss hit a three-point field goal and Maddie Johnson scored on a layup to give UW-Eau Claire a 31-28 advantage.

The game was tied 35-35 with 9:31 left when the Blugolds went on an 8-2 run.  Bree Meier hit back-to-back three-point field goals for UW-Eau Claire in the run.  

UW-L cut the deficit 43-42 with 3:51 remaining, but UW-Eau Claire scored the next nine points to lead 52-42 with 1:41 left.  The Eagles could get no closer than seven points the rest of the game.  UW-Eau Claire went 12-of-13 at the free throw line in the final 3:17 of the game, including eight-of-eight from Lichtfuss. 

UW-L shot 28.6% from the field, including 15.0% (three-of-20) from three-point range, and 66.7% (eight-of-12) at the free throw line. 

Cramer led the Eagles with 19 points and 13 rebounds, recording her sixth double-double of the season. She also had four steals.  Jenna Anderson finished with nine points for UW-L while Rachel Atchison had six points.  Katie Ehlen led the Eagles with eight rebounds, five steals and four assists. 

UW-Eau Claire shot 32.1% from the field, including 30.0% (six-of-20) from three-point range, and 83.3% (15-of-18) at the line. 

Lichtfuss led the Blugolds with 15 points and nine steals while also recording six rebounds.  Lewis finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.  Rachel Egdorf also had seven rebounds.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, February 5 hosting UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
