LOS ANGELES — Brittni Walker grabbed 13 rebounds — seven of them on the offense end — and the Occidental women's basketball team's bench scored 37 points.
But the Tigers late second-half push was too little, too late in a 71-59 loss to Cal Lutheran at Rush Gymnasium on Thursday.
The Tigers fall to 10-8 overall and 4-6 in SCIAC. Cal Lutheran improves to 9-9 and 5-5.
Ashton Reid led the Oxy reserves with nine points, Alyssa Mort had eight and Stefanie Young chipped in seven.
The Tigers were competitive in the first half, tying the score twice early and keeping the contest close before heading into the locker room down, 33-22. In the second, Cal Lutheran went on a 28-11 run, led by Taylor Messick who scored all 10 of her points in the second half.
Katy Lindor scored a game-high 17 points to go along with eight rebounds for the Regals.
Oxy starting center Elizabeth Messick played just 11 minutes in the first half due to foul trouble and never really got into a good rhythm in the second half as the game's tempo stayed fast, favoring Cal Lu's chaotic pressing system.
The Tigers pressed too, but weren't able to capitalize on the 19 turnovers they forced. Oxy shot just 28.1 percent from the field.
The Tigers can inch closer to .500 in conference play with a win in their next game against Caltech at 7 p.m. in Rush Gymnasium on Saturday.
