Elmira, NY -- For the third straight game Jessica Zoltowski '14 of the Elmira College women's basketball team eclipsed the 20-point plateau as she scored 25 points, but it was not enough as the Soaring Eagles fell to Ithaca College, 62-48.  Zoltowski's 25 points led all scorers tonight and her nine rebounds was a team high, but more impressively, it upped her career total rebounds to 522, moving her into sixth place on Elmira College's all-time record list.

Maria Thannhauser '14 also finished in double figures today, posting 12 points, with six of those coming from the charity stripe as she was a perfect 6-for-6.  With six made free throws, Thannhauser moved into fifth place in Elmira College history in career free throws with 201 makes from the charity stripe.

The first half of tonight's game was a battle, as only two points separated the teams at halftime thanks to a lay-up by Zoltowski in the closing seconds, accounting for two of her first half's 14 points.  Credit much of Elmira's first half success to their ability to contest shots as they held the Bombers to 38.5 percent shooting from the floor, leading to a 26-24 lead for EC entering the break.

However, in the second half, Elmira quickly saw their two point lead turn into a 19 point deficit as the Bombers went on a 26-5 run that stretched for nearly 11 and half minutes.  Ithaca would build their lead to as many as 20 points in the half, but a persistent Elmira squad chipped away at the lead, eventually making it a 10-point game with just about a minute to play, 58-48.

Unfortunately for the Soaring Eagles, the 10-point gap proved to be too much as time expired, resulting in a 62-48 loss.

Elmira will look to get back into the win column this Friday, January 31st when the Soaring Eagles host Houghton College during Elmira College's 32nd Annual Athletics Alumni Weekend.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at Speidel Gymnasium in Elmira, NY.
