Hornet Women Rally for 68-67 Victory over Roanoke

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College women's basketball team rallied Tuesday from eight points down in the second half to post a 68-67 victory over visiting Roanoke College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game. It is the Hornets' sixth-straight win, all in conference action, and LC maintains a share of first place in the ODAC.

Roanoke led 33-32 at halftime and opened a 52-44 advantage with 14:29 left in the half. RC still held a four-point lead at the 11-minute mark, but a 9-0 LC run behind a three-pointer from Katie Reeves, back-to-back layups from Charmaine Hairston, and a layup from Chaney Forbush put the Hornets ahead 62-57 with six minutes left. The Maroons regained the edge late, opening a 67-64 advantage with 2:30 left. Forbush hit a jumper with 1:29 remaining and Lauren Penley converted a lay-up with just 49 seconds left to give the Hornets a 68-67 lead. The smothering Lynchburg defense made the one-point lead stand up.

Penley led a balanced LC scoring attack with 18 points and nine rebounds, and Hairston posted 15 points. Reeves hit three three-pointers and finished with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists and Penley tallied 11 points and seven boards. Shannon Allan battled foul trouble but managed to contribute 10 points in just 22 minutes. LC held a 48-36 edge in rebounding for the evening.

Paxton Gwin netted a game-high 19 points for Roanoke (8-9/4-5 ODAC) and snared six rebounds. Laurel Hankins had 13 points and six rebounds.

The Hornets (10-7/8-1) travel to Randolph-Macon College for another conference game Saturday at 2 p.m.
