GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg posted a season-high 15 steals and scored 21 points off turnovers en route to a 58-41 victory over visiting Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference women's hoops action inside Bream Gym Tuesday night.
Senior Caroline Murphy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) led Gettysburg (11-6, 7-5 CC) with 21 points and added eight rebounds. Senior Alyssa Isler (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) scored a dozen points, while sophomore Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) recorded nine points and nine rebounds.
Franklin & Marshall (3-14, 1-9 CC) dropped its ninth-straight decision as the Bullets forced the Diplomats into 23 turnovers. Kristina McCarthy paced the visitors with 14 points.
Franklin & Marshall recorded the game's first bucket, but that would the team's only lead of the game as the Bullets responded with a quick 13-1 run. A jumper by senior Rianna Doane (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) put the lead at 13-3 at 14:26.
The Diplomats came back later in the period to tie the game 17-17 with seven minutes left following scores on three consecutive possessions. Gettysburg capped the half on a 13-2 run as a three-pointer by Doane with less than 20 seconds left set the score at 29-19 heading into the break.
The lead steadily grew in the second half behind Murphy, who netted a dozen points in the period. Murphy's jumper at 14:23 pushed the margin to 15 (39-24) at 14:23. The advantage grew to as many as 20 (57-37) on a jumper by freshman Olivia Braswell (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) with 2:58 to play.
Gettysburg held F&M to just 28 percent (14-of-50) shooting from the floor. The Bullets also out-rebounded the Diplomats 38-36.
Doane and senior Cori Younghans (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) led the defensive charge with four steals a piece. Doane's four thefts pushed her into a tie for sixth in program history with 169. She also turned in eight points and three assists.
Gettysburg hosts Bryn Mawr College on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m.
