Freshman Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) scored 16 points to lead The College at Brockport women's basketball team to its first road victory over New Paltz since the 2005-06 season with a 59-44 victory on Saturday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup.

Brockport (8-7, 4-4 SUNYAC) earns its eighth victory of the season, giving the Golden Eagles their most victories in a season since the 2008-09 season when the team won 19 games and were champions of the SUNYAC tournament.

New Paltz (3-14, 1-9 SUNYAC) got things going with a quick fastbreak layup to start off the game.
Freshman Anna Feller (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) was the first to score for the Golden Eagles, finishing on a layup at 17:24.

The Hawks managed to keep a lead until the nine minute mark when Alexandra Marshall (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) stepped up and drained a three tying up the game for the first time.

A three pointer from Welch three minutes later gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game, 13-12. Marshall hit another two threes to help put Brockport up by nine points with 3:13 to play in the first half.

A free throw from Meg Stucko (Elba, NY/Elba) at 2:05 gave the Golden Eagles a 10 point lead, their largest of the half.

The Golden Eagles dominated on the boards in the first half, outrebounding the Hawks 32-8. Sophomore Erin Cunningham (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro) pulled down an impressive eight boards in just 20 minutes. Brockport's rebounding advantage helped them take a 28-20 lead into halftime.

New Paltz opened up the second half with 4-0 run to cut the Brockport lead to four points, but it was the closest the Hawks would manage to get to the Golden Eagles.

Brockport was able to contain the Hawks and keep control of the ball throughout the second half. Each time New Paltz tried to make a run, the Golden Eagles answered back to keep their lead.

In the final five minutes of play, Brockport was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Welch hit eight of the 10, including two to close out the game, giving the Golden Eagles their largest lead.

As a team, Brockport finished the game shooting 33.3% (21-63) from the floor, 27.8% (5-18) from long range and 85.7% (12-14) from the free throw line.

Welch was the Golden Eagles top scorer with 16 points, while Marshall added 13 and senior Kaitlin Hammersley (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) chipped in 11. Cunningham pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and handed out four assists.
