The New York University women's basketball team won it's second straight University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Sunday afternoon, January 26, defeating the University of Rochester 69-60 at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

NYU (15-1, 4-1 UAA) defeated the Yellowjackets (7-9, 1-4 UAA) in a tight contest in which the two squads exchanged the lead seven times and and were knotted up another seven times as well.

The Violets trailed 9-0 early in the first after Rochester jumped out of the gate, but NYU was able to go on a 13-0 run of its own to take their first lead of the game.

"The first six minutes we were playing their tempo, more of a halfcourt game," said Head Coach lauren Hall-Gregory.

Despite a short bench, the Violets got it done with an overall team effort once again. Four players scored in double-figures, and no player that saw the court for NYU played less than 11 minutes in an eight-player rotation. Overall, the Violets bested Rochester 18-2 in points of the bench.

The Violets also controlled play under the basket, outscoring the Yellowjackets in the paint 36-16.

"Sundays in the UAA are all about grit and toughness, and you're gonna be a bit fatigued," said Hall-Gregory. "So, you have to take advantage of the times you're playing on your homecourt."
