DE PERE, Wis. - St. Norbert College fell back into a tie for first place in the Midwest Conference after the Green Knights dropped a 54-46 decision to Cornell College on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.
The Green Knights (12-4, 9-2 MWC) are now tied atop the MWC standings with the Rams (13-3, 9-2). Illinois College and Monmouth College are both one game back tied for third place with three losses apiece.
St. Norbert held a 40-39 lead on a Tasha Giese free throw with 5:47 left, but would never lead again after Maggie Hogen's jumper 24 seconds later put the Rams ahead 41-40. Cornell's Diamond Boyd hit a jumper with 3:32 left for a 43-40 lead, but St. Norbert's Morgan Heim countered with a jumper with 3:13 to go.
Cornell's Taylor Dicus made two free throws to push the Rams lead back to 45-42 with 2:19 left, and Chelsea Harris canned a big 3-pointer with 1:19 left to boost the lead to 48-42.
St. Norbert shot 38.5 percent from the floor, making 20 of 52 field-goal attempts. The Green Knights were 3-for-16 (18.8 percent) from beyond the three-point arc and 3-for-11 (27.3 percent) at the free-throw line. Tasha Giese was the only St. Norbert player to reach double figures with 11 points.
Dicus led Cornell with 14 points and nine rebounds. Rikki Mulloy added 11 points for the Rams, who shot 40 percent (18-for-45) from the floor.
