BROCKPORT, NY—Three days after its worst defensive showing in its first SUNYAC loss of the season, Buffalo State (11-3/6-1) bounced back and matched its best defensive performance of the year in a 68-52 victory at Brockport (6-7/2-4) this evening.
The Bengals, who allowed 81 points in a loss at Fredonia on Saturday, have allowed 52 points three times this season.
Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) led Buffalo State with 18 points and nine rebounds. Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) was the only other Bengals player in double-figures with 10 points, while Mariah Norris (Endicott/Union-Endicott) chipped in nine. Kala Crawford (Middle Falls/Saratoga Springs) added five points, five rebounds and five steals.
Buffalo State led 31-26 and never trailed in the second half, mounting a 10-0 run early in the second half to pull away.
The Bengals shot 44-percent from the field and outscored Brockport, 40-26, in the paint. Buffalo State also converted 26 Brockport turnovers into 23 points, while only committing 14 turnovers.
Buffalo State will next host Plattsburgh on Friday at 6 p.m.
