NEW YORK --- The City College of New York women's basketball team couldn't keep up with the visiting team from Brooklyn College on Friday night, falling 71-53. The Bulldogs of Brooklyn improve to 11-4 and 6-2 in the CUNYAC while the host Beavers of CCNY drop to 5-9 and 3-5 in conference play.

Karissa Core was on fire for City, scoring a career-high 27 points and making five three-pointers to go along with seven assists and four rebounds. Syreeta Williams finished with ten points and three rebounds, while Giovanna Blanco ended the night with eight points and pulled down eight boards. Taylor Pompilio added four steals.

Brooklyn answered with a balanced attack. Nacirema Mann came off the bench to score 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting while totaling a game-high 12 rebounds. Megan Campbell also scored 16 with eight rebounds, while Nicole Francomano scored 14 points on just seven shots while dishing out a game-high eight assists.

The Beavers held the lead for the opening minutes of the game until Brooklyn pulled ahead on a jumper by Campbell with 14:39 left in the period to take a one-point lead at 7-6. From that point on, it was all Bulldogs, as Brooklyn never relinquished the lead. The visitors led by as much as 14 in the opening half before a late barrage of three-pointers from Core helped CCNY close that lead to seven at 34-27 going into the break. She finished the period with 17 points.

In the second, CCNY cut the deficit to seven on a three point play from Williams with 10:09 remaining in the game. That was as close as the hosts would get as Brooklyn pulled away down the stretch.

CCNY will be back on the court on Monday when they travel to St. Joseph's of Brooklyn. Tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
