Sammons Has Grand Achievement For Hamline

More news about: Hamline

Right from the start of Wednesday's women's basketball game with St. Mary's, it was clear that Hamline guard Jordan Sammons was going to be a handful. Before it was over, she had secured a couple of spots in the school record book.

Unfortunately, the Pipers fell to a late rally, losing to the Cardinals, 79-70.

But not before Sammons became the 10th player in school history to register 1,000 points.

The Burnsville, MN junior went into the night needing 10 to reach the milestone. She nearly did it in the first half, coming up with 16 as HU pressured the  Cardinals and sped to a 39-34 lead.

The Pipers came out swinging in the second half as well. Sammons hit the milestone with a three-point play with 16:31 remaining. At the time, Hamline had a 49-36. They increased it to 15 at 58-43 before the Cardinals unleashed a furious comeback.

In the end, it was a game decided at the free throw line, SMU went 25-36 from the stripe while HU was just 10-13.

Sammons ended up with a game high 31 points. She added 12 rebounds (tying for the game honors) to become the 12th player to school history to record 500 boards.

She did all this in just 63 career games.

When Sammons wasn't getting the points, freshmen Chloe Graves (12) and Chelsey Bonsante (11) were. The Cardinals, however, showed why they are 10-1 on the year with a balanced attack and a rebounding edge.

The Pipers, now 2-9 overall (1-7 MIAC), will look to get back on the right side of the ledger Saturday when they host St. Olaf at Hutton Arena. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
