Hornet Women Defeat W&L 63-46

LEXINGTON, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team used a complete team effort Wednesday to defeat Washington & Lee University 63-46 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up.

W&L led 14-12 midway through the first half, but a 13-0 run from the Hornets, fueled by seven from Sammi Goldsmith, gave LC an 11-point edge. Lynchburg held a 40-26 advantage at intermission, and maintained a double-figure lead the entire second half.

The Hornets had a balanced scoring attack with just one player in double figures. Goldsmith tied for the game high with 12 points and added five assists. Charmaine Hairston had nine points, Shannon Allan and Sarah Coon each had eight points and Lauren Penley posted seven points and five rebounds. Of LC's 12 players, 11 scored and six had six points or more.

Jackie Clifford led W&L (3-9/1-4 ODAC) with 12 points and four rebounds. Samantha Sharman netted eight points and Wesleigh Vick snared a game-high nine rebounds.

The Hornets (7-7/4-1) host Emory & Henry College Saturday at 2 p.m. in another ODAC clash.
