GENESEO, NY— Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) scored 21 points and Buffalo State (10-2/5-0) forced 20 turnovers to produce a 77-64 over host Geneseo (7-3/1-2) in a SUNYAC game tonight at Schrader Gymnasium.
McElroy shot 9 of 13 from the field and also collected seven rebounds. Mariah Norris (Endicott/Union-Endicott) added 14 points, while Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) had 13 points and eight rebounds. Kala Crawford (Middle Falls/Saratoga Springs) and Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) supported a balanced attack with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Bengals trailed 33-32 at the intermission but took the lead for good less than five minutes into the second half and pulled away. The Bengals converted the 20 Geneseo turnovers into 24 points, while committing just eight turnovers that led to only two points for the Knights. The Bengals finished 19 of 32 at the charity stripe, and Geneseo hit just 13 of 28.
Buffalo State will travel to Fredonia on Saturday for another SUNYAC game at 6 p.m.
