HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Hilbert College women's basketball team suffered their first home loss in the 2014 portion of the season today after their 75-58 final against Mount Aloysius College.

The Mounties pulled the road-win off by surviving the first-half foul trouble and improved shooting percentages in the second period. The Hawks had too big of a hole to dig out of late in the game and fell to 0-5 in AMCC play while Mount Aloysius moved to 3-2.

Senior Natalie Whitman led all scorers with 24 points, sinking 12 of 16 at the charity stripe. She also earned 11 rebounds and team-high 3 steals as she shot 50% from the floor. Kylie Reinholz was one rebound and one point short of double-digits (9/9) but she paced the Hawks with 3 assists and converted six foul shots.

Mount Aloysius had four players score 10 points or more, with Becky Bard leading the Mountie charge with 18 points (4 of 8 beyond the arc) and 4 steals.

Hilbert won the rebounding battle (54-51) but gave up 19 offensive boards to Mount Aloysius.

After a slow start with the score 6-3 after 5 minutes of play, the Mounties got into a rhythm offensively and started hitting outside shots. Hilbert found themselves down by 11 (17-6) at 11:03, just as the visitors reached the double-bonus limit which then gave Hilbert two-shot fouls on every Mountie foul. The Hawks took advantage of that opportunity and cut the score to 2 when Natalie Whitman sank both freebies at 7:36. On the next play, Kylie Reinholz had a clean and impressive block which she saved in bounds and threw the length of the floor to Amber Hay, whose lay-up tied the game 19-19.

Whitman's next bucket gave Hilbert their largest and last lead in the game (22-19) with a little over five minutes left in the first half. Hilbert went cold the rest of the period, only gaining points from the foul line and fell behind 34-26 at the break.

With normal starters sitting on the bench in the first period with fouls, Mount Aloysius came out strong in the second half and attacked the rim hard. They quickly built an 18-point lead with just over 3 minutes removed from half time. As the visitors were hitting three point shots, Hilbert was reaching the rim from the free throw line. The Hawks sank only four 3-point shots with Wyann Jackson accounting for two for the day.

Hilbert returns to action tomorrow when they host the AMCC unbeaten and preseason favorite, La Roche College at 4pm.
