Parsons Puts Up 24 as R-MC Routs Hollins

ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) led all scorers with 24 points on her birthday as Randolph-Macon handled Hollins 100-61 in ODAC women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets (8-1, 3-0) reached 100 points for the third time in the past five games. R-MC hit 54% from the floor (35-65), 53% on three-pointers (9-17) and 88% from the free throw line (21-24). The Yellow Jackets forced 28 turnovers, recorded 21 assists and had 12 steals.

Parsons went 8-14 from the floor, 3-5 on treys and 5-6 from the foul line. Other double-figure scorers for R-MC included freshman Stephanie Staples (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) with 16 and sophomore Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry), sophomore Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) and senior Lindsey Sharman (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) with 10 each. Anderson led the victors with nine rebounds.

Hollins (2-5, 0-3 ODAC) led 9-7 five minutes into the contest before the Yellow Jackets used a 12-0 run to take a 17-9 advantage with 12:30 to go in the first half. The spurt grew to a 24-2 run as R-MC led 31-11 with 6:45 left in the period. The Yellow Jackets finished the half on an 11-1 run to take a 56-24 lead to the locker room at halftime. Parsons had 17 points, four assists and four rebounds in the first period. R-MC hit 58% from the floor (18-31), 67% on three-pointers (6-9) and 88% from the free throw line (14-16) while forcing 15 turnovers.

Junior Britney Campbell paced Hollins with 13 points, while senior Carrie Cox added 10. 

R-MC breaks for final exams before heading to Ft. Lauderdale on Wednesday, Dec. 18 for a 12 noon contest against Mt. St. Vincent
