Late Surge Leads Manhattanville Past Rams

Manhattanville - 81, Farmingdale State - 77


Farmingdale, N.Y. - Trailing 76-70 with 1:23 remaining, Manhattanville closed the game on an 11-1 run to earn an 81-77 non-conference victory at Farmingdale State this evening. The Rams fell to 4-5, while the Valiants improved to 4-8 on the season.

Manhattanville led 16-6 in the opening minutes, before Farmingdale State sophomore guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) made a layup and connected on a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 16-11. The Rams closed within three, 23-20, with 9:26 remaining in the first half, before a 5-0 Manhattanville run extended the lead back to eight. Farmingdale State answered with an 11-2 run to take their first lead of the game at 31-30 with 3:17 left in the half. The Rams took a 37-36 advantage into the break as Desvignes led the way with 17 points.

Leading 42-41 in the second half, a 10-0 Valiants run put Manhattanville ahead 52-41 with 13:57 left on the clock. Trailing by 11 with less than eight minutes remaining, the Rams used a 15-4 run to again tie the game at 68-68. Farmingdale State led by as many as six in the final minutes before the Valiants finished strong en route to the 81-77 victory.

Desvignes scored a career-high 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting and added five steals, while junior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) had 21 points and four assists. Senior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards for the Rams.

The Valiants were led by junior guard Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn.) and sophomore guard Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn.) who each had a team-high 21 points, while junior center Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Farmingdale State next will host Mount Saint Mary in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 11th at 1:00 p.m.
