No. 11 Montclair St. Shuts Down New Jersey City for Sixth Straight Win, 60-34

Jersey City, NJ – Senior Nicosia Henry (Bolingbrook, IL, Bolingbrook) netted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds as No. 11 Montclair State extended its winning streak to six with a 60-34 victory over New Jersey City University in an NJAC contest on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore guard Kayla Ceballos (Brooklyn, NY, Christ the King) added nine points off the bench for the Red Hawks, who improved to 12-1 overall while remaining unbeaten in the NJAC at 6-0. Montclair, which posted its 21st straight win over the Gothic Knights, also registered their 25th consecutive NJAC regular-season victory.

Ashley Vazquez had 11 points for NJCU (4-8, 1-5 NJAC), which fell to 3-52 against the Red Hawks in the all-time series.

Henry, who recorded her second double-double of the season, nearly did in the first half as she had 12 points and nine rebounds. Henry would finish the game with five assists, two blocks and three steals in her 25 minutes of action.

Henry scored four of the game's first six points as Montclair led 6-0 early and maintained that lead before closing out the first half on an 18-6 run. Leading 16-13, Ceballos drained a three-pointer and added another with 5:57 left putting MSU in front 22-13. After a pair of free throws from Vazquez, freshman Rachael Krauss (Farmingdale, NJ, Colts Neck) converted a three-point play to push the lead to 25-15.

Krauss would later hit from behind the arc and Henry's basket with 3:38 to go made the score 31-15. Ceballos hit her third three-pointer of the half with 1:18 left as Montclair State would take a 34-19 lead into the break.

Junior guard Janitza Aquino (Kearny, NJ, Kearny) had seven points while senior Sarah Kluth (Lynbrook, NY, St. Mary's) chipped in with six points and six rebounds for MSU, which allowed a season low for points for the second straight contest. Junior Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ, Roselle Catholic) had five points, seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks and three steals.  Krauss and Sage Bennett (Sicklerville, NJ, Winslow) had six points apiece.

The Red Hawks outrebounded the Gothic Knights, 48-47 and had 22 offensive boards which helped produce 23 second-chance points. MSU also had 18 points off NJCU turnovers and collected 14 fast-break points.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, January 11 when it hosts Richard Stockton at home beginning at 1:00 pm. It will be the Red Hawks' charity contest as proceeds from the game will go to benefit Camp Quality.
