DANBURY, CONN. – Senior forward Brittany Ennis (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon Regional) posted her first career double-double with 11 points and a game-best 13 rebounds, but the William Paterson women's basketball team (5-7) couldn't get past host Western Connecticut (5-5), 78-69, in the consolation game of the Hat City Classic Jan. 5.
A 15-2 run put the Colonials in control at 19-6 less than seven minutes into the contest, and WestConn owned a 39-24 halftime advantage as the Pioneers shot just 8-for-34 (.235) from the field during the opening period.
Senior guard Floriana Borova's (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) second-chance layup pulled WP to within three (59-56, 5:57), but the Colonials scored eight of the next 11 points to snuff out the Pioneers' late comeback hopes.
Borova finished with a team-high 16 points off the bench, and sophomore guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) contributed 11 tallies, eight rebounds and four assists.
Chelsea Mone was the high scorer for Western Connecticut with 17 points, and Caroline Brasa chipped in 15 tallies and 10 rebounds.
William Paterson will travel to Kean Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 6:00 p.m.
