Nicole Francomano's Triple-Double Leads Brooklyn Past Lehman

Bronx, NY --- Junior point guardNicole Francomano registered a triple double with 14 points, 11 assists and 11 steals, while also adding six rebounds, to help lead the Brooklyn College Bulldogs past the Lightning of Lehman College, 96-88, in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the APEX in the Bronx.

With the win, BC improves to 7-3 overall on the season and 3-1 in the CUNYAC; while Lehman drops to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Senior Megan Campbell finished the game with a team-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, while junior Sarah Shanderson dropped a career-best 21 points on 8-for-9 shooting, including going 5-for-6 from beyond the arc. Senior T'Keyah Francis and junior Nacirema Mann contributed with nine points apiece coming off the bench, as the Bulldogs' bench outperformed the Lightning's reserves 29-9.

For Lehman, the Lightning had all five starters score in double figures, led by Amely Del Rosario, who led all scorers with 26 points, to go along with seven assists, five rebounds and four steals. Amani Lightbourne added 17 points and eight rebounds, while Genesis Liberato (13 points), Shalaya Nieves (12 points) and Jennifer Navarro (11 points) all contributed to the offense.

Points in the paint played a key role to the BC victory, as the Bulldogs outscored the Lightning by a margin of 46-26 in the paint. Brooklyn also held a 22-12 edge in second chance points, as the visitors out-rebounded the home team, 45-37 (20-12 in offense rebounds). BC's defense also forced Lehman into 28 turnovers, which resulted in 24 points for Brooklyn.

The opening minutes of the game saw three lead changes and one tie, as the Bulldogs would control the majority of the period leading by as many as 13 on two occasions. Trailing 6-5 early in the game, Brooklyn would use a 15-4 run to go ahead by double figures, 20-10, halfway through the period. The Bulldogs would never trail again as Brooklyn would take an 11-point halftime edge, 43-32, into the locker room.

The Lightning would not go down without a fight, as Lehman spent the entire second half clawing its way back in to the game. The hosts would get to within two points twice; however, the Bulldogs would never relinquish its lead as Brooklyn would go on to earn a hard fought 96-88 win. Campbell and Shanderson combined to score 29 of BC's 53 points in the second half to help the Bulldogs hold off the Lightning.

For the game, BC shot 44.9% (35-78) from the field and 46.7% (7-15) from three. The Bulldogs also shot 76.0% (19-25) from the free throw line.

Lehman shot 48.4% (30-62) from the field and 40.0% (6-15) from beyond the arc. The Lightning also shot 73.3% (22-30) from the charity stripe.

Brooklyn, currently riding a four-game winning streak, will be back in action this Tuesday, January 7th, as the Bulldogs will host the reigning CUNYAC Champion Baruch College Bearcats. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 pm tip-off at the West Quad Center.
