ADRIAN - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team won its seventh straight game while improving to 3-0 in the MIAA with a 74-70 win at Adrian College on Saturday.
Kalamazoo trailed just once in the contest, 6-5, and held a 36-25 lead at halftime.
Adrian cut the lead to five points (42-37) with 13:29 left in the second half. Kalamazoo responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to take its largest lead of the game, 53-39, with 9:20 remaining.
Kalamazoo still held a ten point lead, 66-56, with 2:13 left, but the host Bulldogs made a late run to make it a four-point game, 69-65, with 51 seconds remaining. A pair of free throws by Emily Lindsay with 17 seconds left increased the lead back to six. Adrian hit a 3-pointer with six seconds left, but Perri (Weiderman) Nicholson's free throw with five seconds left sealed the four-point win for the Hornets.
Kalamazoo shot 42.6 percent overall while sinking 29-of-38 free throws. Adrian shot 37.1 percent and made 12-of-16 free throws. Kalamazoo held a 44-35 advantage in rebounds, despite being outrebounded 15-11 on the offensive end.
Nicole Antoine, Emily Lindsay, and Morgan Overstreet each scored 16 points to lead the Hornets. Antoine recorded a double-double by also grabbing 10 rebounds. Lindsay pulled down five rebounds while Overstreet had three assists and two steals.
Nicholson finished with eight points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocked shots. India Hoskins scored six points with three assists.
Kalamazoo (7-4, 3-0 MIAA) returns to action on Sunday with a non-conference game at Rochester College beginning at 4 p.m.
