Stingy defense and three-point baskets lead Hamilton past RIT

The Hamilton College women's basketball team won its third straight game Saturday, topping visiting Rochester Institute of Technology 77-52 in a non-league contest at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. Samantha Graber scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Continentals.

Hamilton (6-4) held the Tigers (4-5) to 30.3 percent shooting from the floor (20-for-66); six of the Continentals' last seven opponents have shot below 31 percent.

Graber made 11 of her 14 shots from the floor, pulled down a team-best nine rebounds and added three assists and a pair of steals. Dani Feigin '14 and Serena Ward '16 both matched their career-high scoring totals with 20 and 14 points, respectively; they combined for 10 of the team's 12 three-point baskets.

Feigin's six three-point baskets were one short of the program's single-game record. She added three assists. Ward connected on four three pointers and recorded a personal-high four assists.

The Continentals, playing for the first time in 25 days (they had two scheduled games postponed because of weather conditions), shot a season-high 50 percent from the floor. They made 18 of their 30 first-half shots (60.0 percent).

Courtney Tennant '14 led RIT with 18 points and 10 rebounds; her final point of the game – a free throw with 3:47 left – was the 1,000th of her career.

Graber scored 21 points in the first half to help Hamilton take a 50-26 lead into intermission. The Continentals held the Tigers to just seven points over the first 11 minutes of the second half, opening up their biggest lead (67-33) midway through the period.

Olivia Pimm '14 finished with six points, six rebounds and two steals. Caroline Barrett '17 led Hamilton with six assists.

Julia Bender '17 scored 10 points off the bench for the Tigers. Mallory Apperson '14 contributed six points and four steals.

The Continentals travel to Buffalo State for a 5 p.m. game Monday. RIT plays at Keuka Tuesday at 7 p.m.
