Moss Leads No. 6 Thomas More To a 73-38 Win Over In-State Rival Centre

(DANVILLE, Ky.) - Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.)) scored a game-high 30 points tonight (Monday, December 30, 2013) to lead the sixth-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to 73-38 win over in-state rival Centre College at Alumni Gymnasium in Danville, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 10-0 and with the loss, the Colonials fall to 6-4.

Thomas More jumped out to a 25-10 lead with 6:14 to play in the first half when senior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a three-pointer. Centre used a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 25-14 on a Paige Baechle jumper with 5:24 to play in the first half. The Saints answered with a 16-4 run to take their biggest lead of the half at 41-18 when Moss made a jumper with 1:56 to play in the opening half. Centre's Maggie Hartlage made two free-throws with 25-seconds to play in the half to cut the Saints' lead to 41-20 at halftime. At the half, Moss had 22 points as she was nine-of-14 from the field, including three-of-five from behind the arc and one-of-two from the charity stripe.

The Saints opened the second half on a 20-5 run capped by a Moss lay-up with 11:14 to play in the game to extend the lead to 61-25. Centre used a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 61-30 with 7:40 to play in the game when Hartlage made one-of-two free-throws. That would be as close as Centre would come as Thomas More extended its lead to as many as 38 points as it closed out the game on a 12-8 run for the 73-38 victory.

Moss score her 30 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field, including three-of-five from behind the three-point arc and one-of-three from the free-throw line in 24 minutes of action. Kitchen joined in her double-figure scoring with 10 points as she was four-of-five from the field, including one-of-two from long distance and one-of-one from the line. Senior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) just missed double-figure scoring with nine points. Sophomore guard Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) and senior forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) led the team on the boards with four rebounds each. Beasley led the team in assists with four, while Moss led the team in steals with seven.

The Saints return to action on Saturday (January 4) when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Washington & Jefferson College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
