The Millikin women's basketball team defeated Edgewood College 69-68 on Dec. 28 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill.
Millikin led the entire game until 20 seconds left when the Eagles' Rachel Pope hit a jumper to give Edgewood its first advantage at 68-67. Millikin answered the challenge with six seconds remaining when Alyssa Saklak scored off an assist from Brittany Czaplicki.
Millikin shot 42 percent from the field while holding Edgewood to 31 percent. Edgewood stayed in the game at the free throw line where the Eagles went 33-45 (73 percent). Millikin was 20-29 (69 percent) from the line. Millikin won the rebounding battle 41-37.
Millikin had four players scoring in double figures led by Czaplicki with 19 points. Saklak added 12 points and eight rebounds. Jasmine Johnson had 11 points and eight rebounds. Yip Ypya also had 11 points.
Edgewood got 19 point from Pope who was 9-9 from the free throw line. Brooke Negus had 12 points and Mariah Hill had 11. Dereon Henderson grabbed a team high eight rebounds and scored eight points.
Millikin is now 6-4 on the season and Edgewood falls to 3-8.
Millikin will host #2 Washington University-St. Louis on New Year's Eve at 2 p.m.
