Compton's career-high 33 not enough for Concordia Texas in 84-77 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor

AUSTIN, Texas –
Tyler Compton scored a career-high 33 points but it was not enough for the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team in an 84-77 loss to American Southwest Conference rival Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday afternoon at Concordia Fieldhouse.

Compton hit 13 of her 23 attempts from the field, including 1-of-2 from behind the three-point line. She also connected on 6-of-10 from the free-throw line.

The Tornados (4-3, 2-3 ASC) trailed 79-77 after Compton hit a jumper with 47 seconds to play. However, the Cru (2-4, 2-1 ASC) scored five consecutive points from the charity stripe to close out the contest.

Domonique Liddell logged her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Margaret Milling added 13 points.

Taylor Tucker led Mary Hardin-Baylor with 26 points and a game-best 17 boards.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Liddell registered her fourth career double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. She also set a career high with six blocked shots.
• In addition to Compton's career-high 33 points, the senior guard also handed out seven assists.
• Compton has scored 30 or more points twice this season.
• Compton's 33 points is the most by a CTX player since Brianna Smith, now an assistant coach with the Tornados, scored 36 at Sul Ross State on Jan. 26, 2013.
• Milling posted a season-high eight steals.
• The Cru won the rebounding battle, 67-35, including a 31-12 margin on the offensive glass.
• The Tornados shot 37.8 percent from the floor, which bested UMHB's 36 percent.
• Concordia's 22 steals is a season high. Seven Tornados picked up steals in the contest, and all seven had at least two.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Cru was able to overcome 29 turnovers and shooting 36 percent to pick up the league victory.

Concordia returns to play on Monday, Dec. 30 against former ASC foe Texas Lutheran. The non-conference tilt will be played at 5:30 p.m. in Concordia Fieldhouse.
