PASADENA, CA – Solid play from down low was a difference maker in Pomona-Pitzer's 53-48 win over Caltech on Saturday evening.

Of the Sagehens 39 points that came from made field goals, 32 of those points came from in the paint.

Leading the scoring charge underneath the hoop was Jenn Okonkwo's 15-point evening. Basda Brule-Wills contributed a double-double with a 12-point, 10-rebound effort.

A back-and-forth first half saw four ties and three lead changes. Caltech nudged in front 14-9 at the midway point of the first half. It was the largest lead of the frame for the Beavers. Pomona-Pitzer flipped the script during the next few minutes. The visitors scored 13 of the next 15 points as they took a 22-16 lead with 3:19 left in the half.

Caltech finished the half with a mini-run of their own by scoring eight of the stanza's final 11 points. The visitors took a 25-23 lead into the locker room. The Saghens low post game scored 18 points in the paint during the opening frame.

After the Sagehens upped their lead to 31-25 during the early portions of the second half, the Beavers chipped away at their deficit. A Grace Leishman lay-up with 12:46 remaining brought Caltech within 34-33. However, the Beavers went cold from the floor during the next six-plus minutes while Pomona-Pitzer increased their lead.

Pomona-Pitzer took their largest lead of the evening at 43-33 after an Alaina Woo free throw with 8:06 remaining. After a 6:25 stretch without hitting a field goal, Kate Lewis hit a lay-up to cut into the Beavers deficit but Pomona-Pitzer held a steady lead.

Caltech's final push came in the last minute. A pair of Stephanie Wong three-pointers got the Beavers with 52-48 with a few ticks left on the clock but it was too late as Caltech never had a possession to tie or take the lead before the buzzer sounded.

Wong had a team high 13 points while grabbing a Caltech best 10 rebounds. Bridget Connor added a 12-point evening while Kristen Anderson scored a season high 10 points.
