Both teams struggled early on, playing to a 9-9 tie at the 10:50 mark. The Warhawks finally got started with 3:25 left in the first half, ending the half on a 17-6 run, making three three-pointers and scoring seven points off turnovers.
 
Whitewater ended the first half with a 39-25 lead, shooting 44.4% (16-36) from the floor and 5-10 from behind the arch. Merg had five field goals in the first half and gathered four offensive rebounds. UW-W scored 14 points off of the Blue Devils 13 turnovers.
 
Coming out of the locker room, the Warhawks went on a 12-3 run to extend their lead to 21, 51-30, with just over 16 minutes to play.

After Stout held UW-Whitewater scoreless for nearly four minutes, Kaitlyn Thill (Belgium/Ozaukee) put a spark back in UW-W's offense with a steal and then she found Amy Mandrell (Forsyth, IL/Maroa-Forsyth) streaking to the basket for a fast break layup. That play began a 13-2 run to bring the score to 65-35, the Warhawks never looked back.
 
The Warhawks shot 47.1% (16-34) from the field in the second half, and converted on 11 of 13 free throw attempts. Abbie Reeves(Salem/Westosha Central) had 10 points to lead all scorers, and Thill and Mandrell were tied for the top rebounder with four each. Whitewater capitalized on Stout's 15 turnovers in the second half, scoring 22 points off miscues to bring the total to 36 points off turnovers in the contest.
 
Reeves was UW-W's leading scorer in the game with 17 points hitting 4-7 from behind the arch and 3-4 at the charity stripe. Mary Merg(Greendale/Greendale) had 16 points and five rebounds while Thill was one point shy of her second double-double of the year with 10 rebounds and nine points.

Other scorers for UW-W were Reilly Stewart (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton North) and Morgan Dahlke (Portage/Portage) with six points each, andChelsea Gieseke (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) gathered 10 rebounds, nine off the offensive glass.
 
UW-Wisconsin improves to 7-1 (1-0) while UW-Stout falls to 3-6 (1-1).  The Warhawks will return to the hardwood when they host UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m.
