No. 7 Saints Cross Century Mark in a 104-65 Win Over Waynesburg

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The seventh-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team cross the century mark today (Saturday, December 7, 2013) as it defeated Waynesburg University, 104-65, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to an early 7-3 lead when junior forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) made a lay-up with 19:05 to play in the first half. Waynesburg answered with a 12-5 run to take a 15-12 lead with 13:54 to play in the half when Katie Gehlmann made a three-pointer. The Saints responded with a 35-9 run to build a 47-24 lead on when junior guard Sydni Wainscott (Erlanger, Ky./Simon Kenton) made two free-throws with 3:24 to play in the opening half. Hayden Guiliani made a three-pointer with 20-seconds to play in the half to cap a Yellow Jacket 14-2 run and cut the Saints' lead to 49-38. Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.)) made three free-throws with four-seconds to play in the first half to give the Saints a 52-38 lead at halftime.

The Saints opened the second half on a 20-7 run capped by a Wainscott three-pointer with 14:31 to play in the game to extend the lead to 72-45. The Yellow Jackets put together a 7-3 run to cut the lead to 75-52 on a Giuliani three-pointer with 11:14 to play in the game. That would be as close as Waynesburg would come as the Saints closed out the game on a 29-13 run for the 104-65 victory.

Moss led all scorers with 30 points as she was 11-of-12 from the field, including four-of-five from behind the three-point arc and four-of-four from the free-throw line. Three other Saints reached double-figure scoring as Burgoyne had 22, senior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) had 11 and sophomore guard Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) had 10. Kitchen led the team on the boards with seven rebounds, while Burgoyne added six. Senior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) led the team in assists with seven and Moss added six, while she led the team in steals with four.

The Saints are idle until next Saturday (December 14) when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to play Chatham University. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 3 p.m. at Oakland Catholic High School.
