BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's basketball team scored the initial 17 points and never looked back, cruising to a 72-42 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win over Western New England University on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 7) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
It was the 10th straight UNE triumph over the Golden Bears, as the Nor'easters improve to 6-1 (2-0 CCC) on the season. Western New England falls back to 4-4 overall (1-1 CCC).
Leading the way for Big Blue was sophomore Alanna Vose with a game-high 16 points and three steals off the bench. Classmate Lauren Hayden made 5-of-9 shot attempts to end with 11 points, and added five assists as well as four steals.
Sophomore Sadie DiPierro knocked down three from behind the arc for nine points. Junior Kelly Coleman, who scored seven in UNE's opening run, also totaled nine points to go with five assists. First-year Alicia Brown pulled in a team-best nine rebounds.
UNE dominated the 1st half, assuming a cushion of as many as 27 (37-10) with six minutes left in the period on the way to a 42-16 advantage at the break. While the Nor'easters connected on 46 percent of their field goal tries, they limited WNE to 29 percent (7-of-24) from the floor. The hosts also forced 16 Golden Bear turnovers, which it turned into 25 points going the other way.

Both squads are now off until 2014. The Nor'easters resume their schedule on January 4 (1 p.m.) with a CCC road date against Endicott College. Western New England visits Fitchburg State University for a non-conference match on January 2 (7 p.m.).
