LC Women Defeat Bridgewater 66-50

LYNCHBURG, VA – A strong rebounding effort helped the Lynchburg College women's basketball team to a 66-50 victory Friday evening over Bridgewater College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest. The Hornets held a 54-37 advantage on the backboards.

Bridgewater opened a five-point lead early before LC took control of the game. The Eagles held a 7-2 lead at 16:30 of the first half before seven-straight Hornet points gave Lynchburg a 9-7 edge. BC would not reclaim the lead the rest of the game.

LC led 33-24 at intermission, and 40-32 at the 15:29 mark. Three-straight Hornet layups put the Hornets ahead 46-32 and they led by double figures the rest of the way.

Sophomore forward Chaney Forbush posted a double-double for LC, tallying 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Shannon Allan tied for a game-high of 14 points and snared five rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Toliver had nine points, while Caleigh Patterson had a solid statistical line of eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Molly Shelley scored a team-best 14 points for Bridgewater (2-4/1-2) while Cassidy Burkholder had 12. The Hornet defense harassed Eagle leading scorer Holly Morgan into just 1-of-15 shooting and two points.

Lynchburg (3-4/2-1 ODAC) is off until next weekend. LC hosts William Peace Saturday (3 p.m.) and Christopher Newport Sunday (4 p.m.) in non-conference clashes.
