GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin College scored the first seven points of the second half as it steadily pulled away for a 77-69 victory over Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action at Van Noord Arena.

Kayla Engelhard scored four of her 15 points during the early second half spurt.

"The first five minutes of the second half was the difference," Albion coach Doreen Carden said. "They dictated the pace and made shots. Once we got down it was tough to fight back."

Albion got as close as 43-38 when Brett de Bear knocked down a baseline jumper with 16 ½ minutes to play. Calvin ripped off the game's next 10 points and the Britons trailed by double-digits until the final minute of play. Miranda Bates scored six of her career-high 12 points as Albion ripped off an 18-2 run over the final four minutes.

"Our bench gave us a lot of energy," Carden said.

de Bear led all players with 20 points. She knocked down 8-of-17 shots from the field to complete her fourth 20-point game of the season.

Calvin scored the first seven points of the game, but the Britons erased that early deficit as Caroline Adamczyk drilled a 3-point basket, de Bear, Oreyana Curry and Emily DeWaters scored layups, and Danielle Fraley knocked down a jumper and the Britons seized a 19-17 lead midway through the first half.

Albion shot 55 percent in the first half, and trailed 33-31 at halftime.
