MEQUON, Wis. – Sometimes, teams have nights where it seems that nothing will go their way. The Edgewood College women's basketball team had one of those nights, shooting just 24.5 percent in a 72-41 loss to Concordia University Wisconsin.
Rachel Pope and Brooke McBain helped Edgewood College (1-5, 1-2 NACC) knock down three of its first five shots for a 6-4 lead, but then a tough drought came. The Eagles went 10:01 without another basket, missing 13 shots and committing six turnovers while the Falcons climbed out to an 18-6 advantage. Pope, Allie Novitske, Mariah Hill, andCourtney Spangler all chipped in with points from there, but the Eagles could not cut into the double-digit deficit and trailed 33-13 at the break.
Concordia Wisconsin (6-0, 3-0 NACC) did not let up in the second half and came out with a 6-0 run before Spangler made a layup in the paint for the Eagles' first bucket at 17:10. Edgewood College shot better in the second half, converting 34.8 percent of their attempts from the field, but the Falcons had no trouble finding the basket and were 14-for-26 (53.8 percent) after halftime to maintain a sizeable lead. The Eagles did shoot well at the line, hitting 14 of 19 free throws for a 73.7 percent conversion rate.
Spangler led Edgewood College with 14 points and eight rebounds while Hill and Pope added nine and eight points, respectively. Pope and Chelsey Watkins each pulled down six rebounds.
The Eagles will try to get back on track this Saturday as they travel to Illinois for a 4:15 p.m. game against Concordia University Chicago. Live video and live stats will be available from Geiseman Gymnasium with links available on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
