NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 4, 2013) – The Drew University women's basketball team was able to hold off a late charge by Albertus Magnus (2-3) coming away with an 83-68 victory this evening. The Rangers improve their record to 5-1 on the season, their best mark through six games since the 2009-10 season.

The Rangers never trailed in the contest and were led by 22 points from freshman Hannah Miller (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven). The first-year guard was a perfect, 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. The eight free throws are the second most in a single game without a miss in school history. Playing in her home state for the first time in her collegiate career, sophomore Erin Howard (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) recorded her second career double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore Breana Wilson (Irvington, N.J./Berkshire School) continued her stellar play at point guard. She dished off a game-high seven assists and poured in a career-high 20 points. She also pulled down seven rebounds and was 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

After the two teams battled to a 13-13 tie with 10:54 remaining in the first half, the Rangers ripped off 15-1 run to take a 28-14 lead with 7:03 remaining in the frame. The Rangers continued to build on the lead and eventually went into the half with a 46-26 advantage. Howard came off the bench to score 12 of her 18 points in the first 20 minutes of play.

Lianna Carrero helped the Falcons narrow the gap in the second half. She scored eight points as Albertus Magnus went on a 12-0 run to pull within eight points at the 8:58 mark. She netted 23 of her game-high 37 points in the second half.

The incredible individual effort would not be enough as the Rangers got their lead back to double digits on back-to-back 3-pointers by Miller. The Falcons did not come any closer than 10 points for the final 6:23.

Along with Howard, sophomore Courtney Stephens (Pikesville, Md./Gerstell Academy) helped the Rangers win the rebound battle, grabbing a season-high 11 boards. She chipped in eight points on 4-of-9 shooting. The Rangers out-rebounded the Falcons 47-28 for the game.

The Rangers will look to carry over the momentum from tonight's win to the beginning of Landmark Conference play on Saturday. Drew will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Catholic at 6:00 p.m.
