More news about: New York University

The New York University women's basketball team defeated Brooklyn College 63-43 on Tuesday night, December 3, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

NYU has gotten off to a 6-0 start in 2013-14, its best since starting 9-0 and advancing to the Sweet 16 of the Division III NCAA Tournament in the 2008-09 season.

Leading the Violets once again was sophomore co-captain Megan Dawe. The 6-foot-0 forward scored a game-high 12 points, in addition to pulling down eight rebounds. She has now scored in double figures in two straight contests, and five of six overall this season, while leading the team with 13.2 points/game.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- The Violets saw contributions from many other players in the rotation (including Dawe), with six scoring at least seven points.

- NYU outrebounded the Bulldogs 45-28, including 17-4 on the offensive boards.

- Sophomore guard Riley Wurtz had a great all-around game, scoring 10 points with nine rebounds and six assists. She has now scored in double figures twice this season.

- Freshman forward Lindsey Oldshue continued her stellar rookie season with 10 points and seven rebounds on the night. She is now first on the team with 8.4 rebounds/game and third with 10.6 points/game.

- Rookie guards Amy Harioka -- nine points on 3-of-5 from three-point range and three steals -- and Kaitlyn Read -- seven points, seven rebounds, and three steals -- also contributed to the victory.

- In her second game of the season, senior forward Alexis Doherty scored eight points in 21 minutes.

"We talked during pregame that strategy plus execution will equal success for us," said Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "We did a great job on the defensive boards and that's somewhere we've really improved from last year's team to this year's team. It was a great team effort and as I looked at our stat sheet I saw contributions from a lot of players."

The Violets will be back on the court when they travel to Patchogue, NY, on Saturday, December 7, to face St. Joseph's College-Long Island. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
