GORHAM, Maine – Senior guard Kristen Prue (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) scored 16 points to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 62-56 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday night at Hill Gymnasium.

With the win, Bowdoin remains undefeated on the season and improves to 5-0.  The Huskies fall to 4-3 with the loss.

Prue was one of three Bowdoin players in double figures shooting 5-for-9 from the field and 4-for-8 from three-point ragne.  Junior Megan Phelps (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists, while sophomore Shannon Brady (Scituate, Mass.) tossed in 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help the Polar Bears to a 35-29 edge on the glass.

Senior Erin McNamara (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) and junior Rebecca Knight (Alfred, Maine/McAuley) each scored 12 points to pace the Huskies.  Junior Taylor Flood (Sanford, Maine) had 10 points.

After falling behind 2-0 in the opening minutes, Bowdoin went on a 14-2 run to assume control of the game and led throughout but not without a fight from the Huskies.  With both teams struggling to find the bottom of the net, Bowdoin held a 25-18 advantage at the break.

Southern Maine opened the second half on a 16-9 run to knot up the score.  Flood scored seven of her 10 points in the run, while McNamara scored five.  A jumper from Knight at 12:28 pulled USM even with Bowdoin at 34-34.  However, the Huskies were unable to get over the hump as Bowdoin countered with key baskets down the stretch.  After a jumper from senior Anna Prohl (New London, N.H.) put Bowdoin back on top 36-34, Knight again pulled the Huskies even with another baseline jumper with 11:36, but a dagger of a three from sophomore Selena Lorrey (Kittery Point, Maine/Traip Academy) put the Polar Bears up for good 39-36 with 10:45 to play.

Southern Maine stayed with the Polar Bears the rest of the way and trailed by two, 54-52, with 1:31 to play, but Bowdoin closed out the game from the free throw line for the win.

Southern Maine hosts Western Connecticut State in a Little East Conference game on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).  Bowdoin travels to Colby on Saturday (2:00 p.m.).
