Bronx, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team picked up its second straight win on Monday night with a 77-59 road win at Lehman. Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded her first double-double of the season in the win, while freshman Brittany Lee (Newton, N.J.) tallied a career-high 15 points.
Lehman opened the game with the first seven points of the contest, before the Dolphins used an 18-5 run to take the lead for good on the night. Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored the first seven of the 18 points for the Dolphins.
Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.) would move the Dolphins in front by double-figures for the first time on the night with a lay-in with 7:14 to play in the half and the Mount would not let the Lightning closer than seven points the remainder of the half.
Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.) would move the Dolphins back in front by 11 with a conversion at the 3:43 mark of the half and a triple from Lee with just under three minutes before the half would give the Dolphins their largest lead of the frame at 39-23.
Mount Saint Vincent built its 39-27 lead at the break by holding the Lightning to just 18.2-percent shooting in the first 20 minutes. The Dolphins also forced 15 Lehman turnovers on its way to the 12 point halftime advantage. Barone, Lee and Montague all led the Mount with nine points each in the half.
The Lightning would score six of the first seven points of the second half to cut its deficit to seven points with 16 minutes to play in regulation time. The Dolphins answered with a 16-4 run over 5:10 to take its largest lead of the game, 56-37, with 10:50 remaining. Fraser led the way with eight points over the run for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Vincent would not allow Lehman closer than 12 points the rest of the way and matched its largest lead of the night on a Fraser conversion with just under two minutes left in the tilt. She finished the second stanza with 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting.
Mount Saint Vincent placed three players in double-figures on Monday, led by Fraser's game-high 24 points. She rounded out the night shooting 11-for-21 from the floor and added a game-high 17 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Lee closed the night 5-for-11 from the floor overall and 5-for-8 from behind the arc on her way to her career-high point total. Barone finished the night with 11 points and five helpers, with Montague adding nine points and five assists. Both Barone and Montague led the way with four steals each. Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.) grabbed nine rebounds and added six points for the Dolphins.
Lehman had four players score in double-figures led by 16 points from Amely Del Rosario. Amani Lightbourne secured a team-high 14 rebounds to go along with 13 points and Jennifer Navarro chipped in with 10 points and five assists.
Mount Saint Vincent shot 40.3-percent from the floor overall in the game and held Lehman to an even 25-percent from the field. The Dolphins forced 28 turnovers and translated those into 30 points and held a convincing 40-18 edge in paint points and a 33-2 advantage in bench scoring.
Monday's win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 2-0 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be right back on the floor tomorrow night when they host Medgar Evers. Tip-off on Tuesday at the Sharp Center is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
