MENOMONIE (December 1, 2013) - Foul trouble and missed opportunities down the stretch proved to be too much for the Blue Devils to overcome as they fell 77-71 to St. Scholastica in the final game on the women's side of the Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout.

In a game that was back-and-forth throughout, Stout jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first 10 points of the game before St. Scholastica got on the board. They would push the lead to 12, going up 14-2 just a little over four minutes into the game.

Not to be outdone, the Saints reeled off a run of their own, outscoring Stout 25-13 over the next eight minutes to tie the game up at 27 all with six minutes remaining in the half.

The teams would trade runs again, with Stout reeling off a 9-2 streak before a 10-0 run by St. Scholastica gave the Saints a 39-38 advantage at the break.

A strong start to the second half found the Blue Devils leading 61-49 with just over 12 minutes to go in regulation.

From there things fell apart, as a flurry of Stout fouls and turnovers allowed the Saints to claw their way back. St. Scholastica would outscore the Blue Devils 28-10 the rest of the way, taking the lead for good with 1:43 to go.

The Saints ended up shooting 43 free throws compared to just 18 for Stout, but hit only 26, leaving the door open for a comeback but cold shooting and foul trouble down the stretch sealed the Blue Devil's fate.

For the game, Stout shot just 34.2% (27-79), including only 2-24 from downtown and had 29 team fouls.

Shelby Sterba (Jr, Tony) led the way for the Blue Devils, with a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds before fouling out with under two minutes to go. Sami Schoeder (Sr, Durand) had 13 points and four steals and Kyleigh Hebert (So, Spencer) chipped in 12 points to go with six boards.

Erin Frase led five Saints in double figures, with 15 points on 6-11 shooting while grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Kelsey Sorenson had 12 points and Sammy Doucette, Caitlin McKernon, and Danica Schellbach each dropped in 10 for St. Scholastica.

The Blue Devils will kick off the WIAC schedule at home Wednesday, Dec. 4th against UW-Superior at 7 pm.
