Rams Drop Consolation Game at Amherst Tip-Off

Amherst, Mass. - In the consolation game of the 2013 Amherst Tip-Off, the Rams fell, 83-79, to RPI on Sunday afternoon. Farmingdale State dropped to 1-4 on the year, while the Engineers improved to 2-3.

Trailing 62-61 with 11:50 remaining, a pair of layups and two free-throw's by RPI put the Engineers ahead five, 67-62. Junior guard Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) answered with a 3-pointer for the Rams to cut the deficit to two.

RPI extended their lead to 73-68 with 6:06 to play, before a 6-0 Farmingdale State run highlighted by back-to-back Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) layups gave the Rams a one point lead.

After a Young free-throw tied the game at 75-75, Ashley Clough (West Chesterfield, N.H.) connected on a 3 and Kristen Van Gilst (Harwinton, Conn.) hit a jump shot to give RPI a five point advantage with 1:26 remaining on the clock. Farmingdale State closed within two but fell, 83-79.

Young scored 21 points, had 15 rebounds, eight assists and seven steals, while junior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) scored 18 points.

The Engineers were led by Clough and junior guard Amanda Lynch (Middletown, N.Y.) who each recorded double-doubles. Clough scored 19 points and had 11 rebounds, while Lynch had 15 points and 10 boards.

The Rams next will travel to Purchase for their first Skyline Conference game of the season on Saturday, December 7th at 2:00 p.m.
