ROANOKE, VA --- EMU's basketball women controlled their ODAC opener, leading from start to finish in a 103-45 thumping of Hollins on the road.  The Royals shot 53% from the floor as they gave Head Coach Kevin Griffin his program-record 140th career victory.

Bianca Ygarza (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) scored the game's first four points, and after a three pointer from Hollins, EMU rattled off 20 more points for a 24-3 lead.  The lead grew to its biggest by halftime at 53-18.

The women got even more efficient in the second half, hitting 57% of their shots over the final 20 as they were never seriously threatened.

Ygarza was one of three women to score in double figures, charting 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block.  Keke Haynes (Roanoke, Va./William Fleming) hit a trio of threes and also had 15 with three steals.  Marla zumFelde (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) connected on four triples and had 13 points.

Point guard Keyla Baltimore (Bristow, Va./Brentsville District) added nine points, seven assists and six rebounds.  Alisa Brown (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park)and Shakeerah Sykes (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) each had four steals.  Alicia Ygarza (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) had a game high seven boards.

The scoring outburst was the first time EMU has crossed 100 since they score a program-record 113 against York (N.Y.) two years ago.  It was their first century mark in an ODAC game since Feb. 15, 2011, against Randolph.

Griffin, now in his ninth season, has a career record of 140-73.  He surpasses Sandy Brownscombe (139-134) for the most wins in EMU basketball history.

The Royals improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the ODAC and step out of the conference for their next game.  They play at Mary Baldwin on Tuesday with a 6:00pm tip-off.
