Bridgewater Downs Guilford in ODAC Opener

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Holly Morgan scored a game-high 18 points and Heather Cantrell added 17 in Bridgewater College's 63-54 basketball win over Guilford College in both teams' Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener Saturday.

Cantrell and Morgan both scored 10 points in the first half to help the Eagles (3-1, 1-0 ODAC) open a 39-20 halftime lead. Guilford's Brittany Drew scored all 16 of her points in the second half, which helped rally Guilford to within 61-54 with 1:21 left in regulation. The comeback ended there as the Quakers couldn't get a shot to fall on their final two possessions.

Morgan scored eight points and Cantrell had six during a decisive 21-6 Eagles' spurt midway through the first half. The game was tied at 11-11 with 12:06 left before halftime when Bridgewater pulled away. The Eagles forced 10 first-half turnovers, which led to 16 points.

Guilford's Gabby Oglesby recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Morgan King contributed nine points and 12 boards for the Quakers, who outscored Bridgewater in the paint, 30-14.

Guilford returns home Tuesday (11/26) to host Averett University at 5:30 p.m.
