Nazareth outscores Cazenovia, 66-47

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. -- Sophomore Lindsey Kelly was one of four players who scored in doubles figures for visiting Nazareth Thursday as the Golden Flyers defeated Cazenovia in a non-league women's basketball game, 66-47.

Nazareth evened its overall record at 2-2. The Golden Flyers play again Tuesday at Alfred State at 6 p.m. Cazenovia is 0-3.

In addition to Kelly, who also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, senior Anna Wicks matched a career-high with 12 points. Senior Megasn Morrison had 11 points and sophomore Julia Brew scored 10 points.

Nazareth set the tone early as Brew hit a three-point field goal in the opening minute to give the Golden Flers a lead they never relinquished. Nazareth's lead reached 16-6 on a basket by Kelly with 10:43 left in the first half. Another three-pointer by Brew, then a basket and a three-pointer by Wicks extended Nazareth's lead to 24-6 with 6:31 left in the half.

The lead continued to grow as Nazareth went up 35-14 at the half. The Golden Flyers were never seriously challenged in the second half as the lead remained in double digits. Nazareth hit 23 of 65 shots from the field (35.4 percent), including 9 of 24 shots (37.5 percent) from three-point range. Nazareth had a 45-36 rebounding advantage. Sophomore Veronica Peck and junior Hannah Runyon each had five assists.
