Mahwah, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team erased a 12-point second half deficit to edge out the Roadrunners of Ramapo College, 73-70, in overtime on Wednesday evening at the Bradley Center.
With the win, BC improves to 2-1 overall on the year season, while Ramapo drops to 1-2 overall on the year.
Junior Carissa Williams led the way with a team and season-high 24 points (16 in the second half), on 8-for-20 shooting from the field, including going 5-for-10 from three and 3-for-7 from the free throw line. Williams also grabbed seven rebounds, while dishing out a game-high seven assists and registering three steals. Senior Megan Campbell netted a season-high 19 points, to go with five rebounds, while junior Asia Foster grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds, to go with five points.
For the Roadrunners, Micaela Moore led all scorers with 26 points, to go with a team-high nine rebounds, while Kelly Haspel added 10 points.
After a jumper from Moore that gave the home team a 12-point cushion, 45-33, with 10:42 left in the game, the Bulldogs began to chip away at its deficit utilizing a 25-12 run to give the visitors a one-point edge, 58-57, with just 1:42 remaining on the clock. Freshman Tiffany Ruiz capped off the run with a key three-pointer to give the Bulldogs their first lead since the opening minutes of the game.
The final minute would see both teams trade leads and eventually end the game tied a 61 all, as the teams would head into overtime.
Following three straight points from Ramapo to open the extra period, the Bulldogs rattled off eight straight points to take a 69-64 lead with just 1:56 left in the game. Brooklyn would never trail again as BC would eventually earn a hard fought 73-70 overtime victory. Campbell scored five points in the overtime period to complete the comeback win for Brooklyn, while junior Jaclyn Grasso hit key free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
For the game, BC shot 43.3% (26-60) from the field and 40.9% (9-22) from beyond the arc, while shooting just 41.4% (12-29) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners shot 38.6% (22-57) from the field and just 20.0% (2-10) from three, while going 24-for-30 (80.0%) from the charity stripe.
Brooklyn returns to the hardwood this Saturday, November 23, as the Bulldogs will play host to Worcester State University. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm tip-off at the West Quad Center.
