RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior Gabby Oglesby tallied 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, all game highs, in Guilford College's 60-46 nonconference women's basketball win at Meredith College Wednesday. Morgan King added 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Quakers, who improved to 3-0.
Oglesby had 11 points and six boards by halftime, which sparked the Quakers to a 34-23 lead. Brittany Drew knocked down two three-pointers and Guilford shot nine-of-12 from the free-throw line to gradually open up a double-digit lead.
McKenzi Edwards's layup with 13:56 left in the second half drew the Avenging Angels (1-2) to within, 38-34. Guilford answered with an 11-2 run, capped by Oglesby's traditional three-point play. Meredith drew no closer than eight points the rest of the way and Guilford sealed the win with five free throws in the final 32 seconds.
Guilford's Drew finished with 12 points and four steals. King and Oglesby helped the Quakers to a commanding 51-30 rebounding edge. Guilford collected 19 offensive boards, which led to 17 second-chance points. The Quakers held the Angels to less than 30% shooting from the floor.
Edwards paced Meredith with 16 points and Keyanka Bailey added 15. Raven Gregory had a team-high nine rebounds.
The Quakers open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday (11/23) at Bridgewater College at 2:00 p.m.
