CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime junior Bekah Campbell tied a career-high with 20 points to lead the Mariners to a 92-41over Maine-Machias in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday. The Mariners improved to 2-1, while the Clippers dropped to 2-2.
Campbell, who scored 20 against New England College in 2012, was 7 of 13 from field and 6 of 7 from the stripe. She added nine rebounds and five blocks. Leah Jackson picked up her first double-double this season with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She also dished out a team-best five assists.
Ashley Shine turned in 10 points and Kari Jones and Jillian Perron had nine points each. Kristi Willey scored eight points and pulled down eight rebounds, Mackenzie Vosburgh also grabbed eight boards and Hannah Lyons scored eight points for Maine Maritime.
Machias was led by Vanessa Patterson's 11 points and Emma LeGallais' nine.
After a Patterson three tied the game for a third and final time early in the first half, the Mariners pulled away with a 15-2 scoring run to lead 22-9 with 10:28 left before the break. Cheyenne Malloy and Campbell each scored four points in the run for Maine Maritime, Perron and Willey pumped in three each and Lyons one.
Maine Maritime increased its lead to 20 on a Campbell layup with 5:40 left and to 21 on a Vosburgh layup with 1:19 left in the first. Danielle Wormell's free throw for the Clippers made it 40-22 at halftime.
Wormell's trey midway through the second half made it 53-33 before the Mariners responded with a 16-0 run to lead 69-33 with 9:15 left in the game. Shine paced the run with five points, Jackson four, Alex Winchester, Campbell and Lyons two and Vosburgh one.
The Mariners led by 50, 90-40, after a Shine three and by 51, 92-41, after a Campbell layup late in the game.
The Mariners return to action Saturday hosting St. Joseph's at 1 p.m.
